Construction & Size Guide

All Circle One wetsuits are constructed using either a ‘flatlock’ seam or the more robust ‘glued and blind stitched’ seam.

Flatlock Stitching

Flatlock is created by stitching neoprene together, creating a flat seam. This is comfortable, but can only be used on neoprene up to 3mm and is therefore only suitable on summer wetsuits. This stitching method either butts or overlaps two pieces of material and then sews them together with multiple needles in a series of three or four rows of stitching, creating a very strong seam. The flatlock stitch is easier and faster to make, so it tends to be less expensive than a blind stitched wetsuit.  Flatlock stitching allows water to penetrate the suit through the tiny needle holes which is again another reason why this seam is more suitable for summer wetsuits or warmer climates.

Take a look at our Flatlock Summer Suits (Pulse & Faze) here.

Glued & Blind Stitched (GBS)

A blind-stitch is produced by gluing neoprene panels together followed by stitching that does not penetrate the outside of the neoprene. This means no water can penetrate through the seams of the wetsuit, making it warmer for cold water, and also able to be done with thicker neoprene for winter wetsuits. Tape can be added to stress points or a liquid seal on internal or external seams for added durability.  Some wetsuits are blind-stitched on inside and external seams for extra robustness ‘double blind-stitched’ (commonly used on hire or centre suits which take a lot of abuse).

Our Glued & Blind Stitched Wetsuits are our Arctic range & Diva Summer Wetsuits.

Liquid Seal (LQS)

Some of our top end suits utilise an external ‘liquid seal’ on the opposite side of the blind-stitch.  The material is a liquid silicone-based urethane.  It makes the seam ultra durable because the liquid weld bonds to the entire seam rather than just at the stitch points. Again great for winter suits to really protect you from the cold water!

Our premium wetsuits are the Diva Winter Suit, Elev8 Range and Men’s Icon Winter suit.
