BACKGROUND (written by Lewis himself!)
My name is Lewis Clinton and I am a professional surfer/board shaper. I was born in Cornwall living in Newquay all my life. I learnt to surf on family holidays to Barbados at the age of 10 on a body board. 1 year later and on my 11th birthday my dad bought me my first surfboard and soon after surfing is all I ever wanted to do. The Skateboard was packed away for good along with my football boots. When I was 14 I got my sponsorship with Volcom, after being picked up by Volcom I was lucky enough to travel through Europe every summer with the team following the ASP Pro Junior Circuit and gained a heap of experience surfing against the highest level juniors in Europe. Surfing has taken me to some incredible places around the world and also taught me how much I love home. During my time in the juniors on the UKPST and the ASP junior tour I worked hard on my competition surfing, working when ever in France with top European coach Didier Piter. In the UK and world contest scene I had a great time, I was crowned English champion in 2008, UKPST Champion 2009 and surfed for Great Britain in the ISA World Games 3 times making the repecharge quarters finals in France which placed me 24th overall and being the highest placed brit in the team. During my last year in the pro junior age group I had what I believe to be the best achievement of my career so far making 3rd place, 0.02 from the 2nd spot in the ASP Billabong Sopelana pro junior. I was stoked with this result as I felt I had finally truly cracked the European circuit and realised it was possible to be in amongst the best, only 3 juniors from the U.K including myself have ever made a final in an ASP junior tour event. In the future I just want to carry on doing what I’m doing, learning and visiting great places. I am going to work hard at my shaping, I wanna keep experimenting with different things and gain as much experience as I can!
